Olivia has been running ever since the vampires took over. They took away her family, leaving her alone hiding in the underground tunnels for safety. Two years later they’ve finally caught her. She’s sold as a gift for the vampire lord to be his personal pet. Tobias confuses her. She’s fearful of his intentions as she’s seen firsthand what vampires are capable of. Instead of killing her as she expects; he feeds her, heals her wounds, and gifts her art supplies. He treats her with care in private, but in public has her behave as a piece of property to keep up appearances.

Tobias doesn’t believe Olivia’s story recounting the events that led to Riverdale’s collapse. After all, the city was under his rule. She claims the city was overthrown by vampires when Tobias knows that it burned to the ground in a fire due to humans rebelling. She has no evidence to support her claims, until he sees her sketch of the face of the vampire that haunts her dreams. Tobias realizes that Riverdale’s demise was the product of an attack by rogue vampires that wish to overthrow him. Olivia was there to work off her debt for rebelling, but now that’s proved false and he doesn’t want her to leave. She reminds him of being human. Someone he’s willing to rewrite the rules of his kingdom for… hopefully without causing a rebellion.
